It was supposed to be Christy Sullivan’s perfect Christmas escape – a dream trip to Lapland with her family and best friend, Alix. But facing a make-or-break marriage crisis, Christy desperately needs time alone with her husband, Seb. Her solution? Alix, along with Seb’s oldest friend, Zac, can take Christy’s daughter on the planned Lapland trip, and they will all reunite there for Christmas Day. After all, what are friends for?
There’s nothing Alix won’t do for Christy, but Christy’s plan to save Christmas is testing their friendship. Especially as Alix and Zac have a difficult history of their own.
As long-held secrets unravel, and unexpected romance shines under the Northern Lights, can Christy and Alix find the courage to fight for the relationships they really want? And could this Christmas escape save the precious gift of each other’s friendship?
This wonderful Christmas themed book set in Lapland and it was a delight to read from start to finish. The setting is magical and described in detail, the author conjures up vivid images of the frigid beauty of Lapland. The sleigh rides, Northern Lights and cosy fires all add to the atmosphere as well as the traditions and some history of Lapland make it a cosy and interesting read.
Romance is not at the forefront in the story it is more focused on the exploration of the relationships of the main characters and addresses their complexities and family dynamics. Four couples’ relationships are an integral part of the story; Robyn’s past relationship with her deceased sister and what caused it to fracture, we are left guessing until near the end. Alix and Christy’s now fragile friendship and what caused the growing rift between them. Alix and Zac rekindling their romance, after they were forced together to look after Holly, Christy’s little girl in Lapland. I really like these two together their banter and chemistry was brilliant. Lastly, Christy and Seb sorting out the difficulties in their complicated marriage, Christy learning to trust him and rediscovering their love for one another.
The Christmas Escape is a beautiful Christmassy read, you can’t go wrong reading Sarah Morgan’s books and this is no exception. Uplifting and heartwarming you are sure to enjoy this one.
