Review:

It’s been a while since I’ve read a psychological thriller and after reading the synopsis this one particularly caught my attention.  I was completely engrossed from the first page and became lost in the story and the characters.  Vince Taylor has the perfect life, he is the wealthy CEO of KitzTech, he’s married to a gorgeous wife and has a beautiful home.  A new intern starts at the company and Vince’s life suddenly takes a turn for the worse.

The writing is fluid and beautifully descriptive.  One particular paragraph stays with me, the author describes a hot summertime scene in the city.  A group of children have freed a fire hydrant and are playing in the rainbow reflected mist.  The description was so vivid and I lived in the moment feeling the heat and the ice cold water.  The construction of the story is brilliant, I thought the multiple narratives and flashes back from past and present worked well.  Even the victim herself became part of the narrative towards the end.  The short choppy chapters complimented the story’s fast-pace and there was never a dull moment.  The story is gripping with enough twists and turns to keep the reading guessing.  There are several suspects, but I certainly wasn’t anticipating that ending and it took me completely by surprise.    The characters well developed and authentic and easy to like, or even dislike. Even after his infidelity you can’t help but empathise with Vince who is paying the price for his silly mistake and despite this I still liked his characterisation.

An amazing debut novel with an exciting and compelling storyline.  I really enjoyed seeing the mystery unfold and it all wrapped up nicely at the end.  I’m looking forward to seeing what this author comes up with next.
