Book Review: Part of Your World by Abby Jimenez

Synopsis:

After a wild bet, Alexis Montgomery has had her world turned upside down. The cause: Daniel Grant, a ridiculously hot carpenter who’s ten years younger than her and as casual as they come – the complete opposite of sophisticated city-girl Alexis. And yet their chemistry is undeniable.

While her ultra-wealthy parents want her to carry on the family legacy of world-renowned surgeons, Alexis doesn’t need glory or fame. She’s fine with being a ‘mere’ ER doctor. And every minute she spends with Daniel and the tight-knit town where he lives, she’s discovering just what’s really important. Yet letting their relationship become anything more than a short-term fling would mean turning her back on her family and giving up the opportunity to help thousands of people.

Bringing Daniel into her world is impossible, and yet she can’t just give up the joy she’s found with him either. With so many differences between them, how can Alexis possibly choose between her world and his?

Review:

This is an opposites attract romance between Alexis, a sophisticated city girl and ER doctor and Daniel, a small town carpenter who runs a Bed and Breakfast establishment. Despite their vastly different lives and substantial age gap they find they have a deep connection and undeniable attraction to each other but things are not quite as simple as they seem. Part of Your World is a well written and captivating story that also deals with some serious real life issues as well, such as emotional and physical abuse.

The townspeople of Wakan are a lively and interesting bunch and sparked so many emotions. I was completely attached to the characters, both human and the loveable animal characters. The animals in particular brought humour to many of the scenes and the antics of Kevin Bacon and Hunter are very comical. Witty and incredibly romantic I adored Daniel and Alexis as a couple and I became completely absorbed in their relationship. Daniel is adorable, a gorgeous rugged and down to earth character who absolutely idolises Alexis, treating her with such care and kindness. Alexis is quite a complex character who is coming to terms with a past abusive relationship and also dealing with an overbearing father. She is strong, smart, dedicated to her job and to helping people and she grew from strength to strength during the course of the story.

I’m not totally convinced about the magical elements sprinkled in the book, they felt a little bit out of place and would have worked just as well without them. Otherwise, this book is well written, with wonderful characters, a compelling plot and I didn’t want it to end. I would have devoured it in one sitting if I had had the time. This book certainly sets the bar high in terms of romantic comedies and I will definitely be reaching for this author’s work again.
