Two weeks before Christmas and all through Manhattan, shop windows are decorated in red and green satin. I’m standing alone in front of the famous Vivant department store, when a charming man named Aiden asks my opinion of the décor.
It’s a tragedy in tinsel, I say, unable to lie. He asks for a better idea with a twinkle in his eye. Did I know he owned the place? No. He put me on the spot. Now I’m working for that man, trying to ignore that he’s hot. But as a down on her luck girl with a difficult past, I know an opportunity when I see one – and I have to make it last.
I’ll put my heart and soul into dressing his holiday windows. I’ll work without stopping. And when we lose the battle with temptation, I’ll try and remember I’m just window shopping.
This is a short book which packs a surprising punch. Don’t be misled by the cute cover this novel is unexpectedly steamy. Stella is a recently released convict who has hit rock bottom and is trying to piece her life back together and find direction. She catches Aiden’s eye when she is smirking to herself at the appalling window display in the Vivant department store window. She thinks he is weird; he thinks she is fascinating. At the end of their conversation, he urges her to apply for the window dressing vacancy, which results in a life changing decision for Stella.
These two have an incredible chemistry. I liked their grumpy/happy dynamic and the dual points of view worked well as you get to see both sides. Aiden is the complete antithesis to Stella, he’s strait-laced and formal, wears novelty bow ties and is constantly happy and optimistic. He sees the good in everyone and has utter faith in Stella despite her conviction. He does, however, have a passionate and rather naughty side and things get very spicy when this is revealed.
Window Shopping is a wonderful festive romance with likeable characters, brilliant humour and unexpected steamy moments. I loved the department store setting, made even more magical as its set around the festive period. The ending is emotional, romantic and perfect in every way and I may have shed a tear or two. I really enjoyed reading this book and I will definitely be watching out for more of this author’s work.
